This was our third time on each island! Some may say they wouldn't choose to go to the same place twice, as the world is so big, there is so much to explore! But if you have experienced either island, you'd know why we keep returning! Let me sell it to you!
This time we stayed at the ibis hotel on samui, at around £37 per night, modern and clean rooms, a beautiful pool and within walking distance of the fishermans village, you can't go wrong! As I mentioned on the last trip to Samui the fishermans village is a bustling market place, every cuisine you could ask for, bright and busy, cheap, friendly and a fantastic atmosphere, you can get at a high end restaurant on the beach or at a market stall, the fisherman's village has it all. You can grab a taxi here from anywhere on the island, but it's nice to be able to walk!
Think convenience and tropical beauty, what more could you ask for? Sometimes we would drive to the BIG C supermarket as there is a play centre and arcade, I like to buy myself some auntie anne's pretzels as a sneaky treat when cass isn't looking! They are also about 20% of the price they are in the UK, even more attractive!
In Phangan we stayed at the Sunset hill resort, it was around £50 a night to have a beautiful and huge apartment, the staff were so kind and very accommodating. There wasn't the option to have breakfast, but I think they have recently updated and have added the option. There are a few photos of the room below, absolutely stunning!
A good friend of mine was doing a 3 month yoga course near by, because the course was so intense she didnt get to see much of the island, so we took her on a little trip! We went to SLIP & FLY, everybody is welcome, the big slides are really for adults but there are a few small ones for older kids, but to be honest cass loved to watch dad have a go on the mega slide! It is a good few mins climb to the top, a great way to spend a good few hours! Me and my friend decided there was no way we were going to have a go!
We managed to have one evening out, as my friend kindly offered to look after cass for the evening! We went to haad rin beach like we did before cass was born, it was strange not having him with us, we each had a bucket and watched the fire shows, Win decided he wanted a tattoo! There were no concerns about hygiene as brand new kits were used and I felt very silly when I asked as thy tattoo guy chuckled when I asked!
We managed to get to the elusive bottle beach by boat! We tried on the last trips to get there by road, but the first time it hadn't been built and the second we got lost! It's pretty much the beach you see in the far off destination adverts, pure sand and clear sea, blue skies and handmade wooden boats, worth a visit but purely to see as there isn't a huge amount to do otherwise.
On the islands, we feel like we can really relax, it feels safe and comfortable, samui is a little busy but for all the right reasons, there are lots of families, some may think Thailand is a far reach from the european holiday, and the truth is...it is, but once you've taken the leap of faith, you'll never look back, these are the perfect locations for family holidays, there are plenty luxury villas for 6-8 people available for rent at a low cost, there are car rentals, busy areas, beaches, shopping, supermarkets and all the convenience you could ask for...at a fraction of the price! The downside is flight time...but i promise you, you'll get over it once you arrive!
