Arriving in another country on the same trip was new to us, as we had no local currency, on our last trip we travelled around thailand, so kept the same currency throughout, when we got off the plane we had to get cash out to get some snacks before jumping on the coach, I had no wifi, no idea what the cost of anything was or how much I needed to withdraw! Completely unprepared! I grabbed some pancakes and water, we waited an AGE for a coach, as we wee told there was only one company that you could use to get out of the airport, it seemed everybody used this company so we thought it safer...probably a little more expensive, but this was our first time in the country.

We were told several times out hotel was in the sticks and that it was really really far away! We waited well over an hour to get onto a coach, it did 2-3 stops and dropped us off in about 45mins, so wasn't horrendous and we've had worse!

Chucking our bags in the room and a quick change we ran outside the the picturesque beach, we couldn't go in the water as here were jelly fish, but cass had fun finding out he hated sand!

We stayed at the FOUR POINTS hotel, modern, clean and reasonably priced, a little out of the way but walking distance to the tesco lotus! In the evenings we got a taxi to the market, lots of nick nacks and clothes, different food stalls. We found a few good places to get a nice curry, this time indian curries, there were a lot of these, all very tasty! Lots of crunchy veg and cheap!

We moved to the HARD ROCK hotel, Penang, it was complete paradise! FILLED with things for kids to do, its own AMAZING waterpark, fantastic food, and a beautiful room with the most incredible view! It was a little more expensive than planned at around £110 a night, but worth every penny. We had rock star royalty breakfast, very tasty and lots of variety.

You'll see a photo below of cassius with one of the security guards at the airport, we have found this is common place, they will see him having a meltdown, and let him play with their radio, take him to the window to see the planes, or to the lady co-workers so they can adore him too! Such lovely people, I never let my guard down completely, but it's a very different feeling to being at home.

Penang is PARADISE, a few days is enough, I would recommend getting a decent hotel where you can stay and relax, you'll feel like you are in a brochure! Places like this are for pure relaxation, embrace it!
